Screen Use Policy
At Whytebeams we provide a broad range of engaging activities that support ourcurriculum, alongside an enabling environment, with high-quality play, teaching andsupport from adults. This is how children learn and develop best.
Screens are not used in everyday play and guidance states that screen use must beappropriate and closely monitored, with a clear link to the intended learning.
Where screens are used from time to time, this is always with adult supervision andsupport and there is a clear educational intent; children access our Little Link Speechand Learning programme via tablets for half termly assessments. These last foraround 10-15 minutes and are interactive to assess children’s understanding andphonetic knowledge once they have competed the reading programmes with staff.
This use of screens complies with the guidance set by the DfE and the EYFS.
Children do not access screens alone or without supervision from an adult to protectchildren from harmful content and supports their development as adults cancontextualise and scaffold children’s learning, rather than children passivelyconsuming content.
We also provide guidance to parents by email and through our website about saferscreen use to promote good habits and safeguarding.
