Photographs & Videos
At Whytebeams we recognise that photographs and video recordings play a part in the life of the nursery. We ensure that photographs or recordings taken of children in our nursery are only done with prior written permission from each child’s parent and only shared in accordance with permissions given and in a secure manner. We obtain permission for this when each child is registered via our enrolment form and ask that parents update us of any changes.
At enrolment, we ask for individual permissions for photographs and video recordings for a range of purposes including: use in the child’s learning journey; for display purposes; for our end of term show and for promotional materials including our nursery website, and the local press. We may occasionally seek separate individual permission to use images of children for our website and promotional material on social media pages which may on occasion show children’s faces. Apart from this children’s faces are blurred out on our social media pages for safeguarding reasons. For images and videos in children’s online learning journals, we ensure parents understand their child’s image may appear in another child’s learning journal, where children are playing alongside each other. If a parent is not happy about one or more of these uses, we will uphold their wishes and endeavour to find alternative ways of recording their child’s play or learning.
-
Staff are not permitted to take any photographs or recordings of a child on their personal devices e.g. cameras, mobiles, tablets or smartwatches and may only use those provided by the nursery.
-
The nursery manager will conduct regular checks on nursery devices with regard to photographs and recordings to ensure the children are safeguarded.
-
Parents or visitors are not permitted to use any recording device or camera (including those on mobile phones or smartwatches) on the nursery premises.
During special events, e.g. Christmas and Summer Show, a professional videographer will create a video of the performance. We also have a photographer visit the nursery twice a year for individual and group photos. Permission for this will be gathered on the enrolment form or separately by email. Parents will be informed in advance of the events and given the option to remove their child if they wish by notifying us. Hired videographers and photographers will provide a clear enhanced DBS and will only work 38 WHYTEBEAMS NURSERY with children alongside an employed member of staff. They will be required to provide a DBS and sign safeguarding and confidentiality agreements before carrying out their work.
Parents are not permitted to download or share photos from our social media sites or online learning platforms, including Tapestry on social media. Parents must sign acceptance of this on enrolment of their child at Whytebeams.
